As mentioned in today’s email, we are beginning to plan for our Holiday Party.  We will have our party on Friday, December 18th at 12:30.  Please feel free to join us if you are available.  If you would like to supply an item for the party, please email me or leave a comment on this blog entry.  I will update this blog as items are filled.  Items that we have used for previous parties are:

  • Foam Picture Frames – Holiday foam sheets for 4×6 photo.  Holiday foam stickers.
  • Christmas craft (ornament, etc)
  • Cookies
  • Juice

This Thanksgiving, I know what I am thankful for…the support of all of the parents!  Thank you parents for making the feast such a success.  We gobbled up lots of food, created lasting memories of a shared meal between friends and family, and reenacted a longstanding tradition founded by the pilgrims.

Last Thursday, we cheered our way through the Second Annual Palmetto Prep Cup!  This year, Second Grade through Fifth Grade played flag football while Kindergarten and First Grade pulled out their best cheerleading moves.  Initially, my friends were convinced that boys could not be cheerleaders.  But, we decided that someone had to throw the girls up in the air.  We still had some resistance and decided to establish a marching band!

Since the beginning of November, our class has been working in pairs to create our own alphabet books.  Each group chose a topic for their book and completed two sentences a day.  We used a variety of alphabet books as examples and used the internet as a resource for finding objects for the letters of the day.  After we wrote our sentences, we went to the Media Center to type our sentences.  There, we learned how to make capital letters, finger spaces, and periods.  Fifth grade came each day to help us find clip art and photos to match our words.  Throughout the process, we also learned how to resize images.  Our computer skills grew leaps and bounds with this project and we look forward to future technology projects.

Be sure to check out our finished projects in the hallway outside our classroom.

We proudly introduce the actors and actresses from the K2 Actor’s Guild in their debut performances:

Appearing in Peter Rabbit (the first) we have:

  • Victoria as Mother Rabbit
  • Johannes as Peter Rabbit
  • Jackson as McGreggor
  • Eric as the Narrarator

Appearing in Peter Rabbit (the second), we have:

  • Sammy as Father Rabbit
  • Drew as Peter Rabbit
  • Andrew as McGreggor
  • Eric as the Narrarator

Appearing in Little Red, we have:

  • Sarah as Mom
  • Alize as Little Red
  • James as the Wolf
  • Kate as Granny
  • Eric as the Narrarator

I am very proud of all of the hard work the student put into these performances.  They began the study by forming their own groups, deciding amongst themselves who would play each character, and creating a cast list.  Then, each character reflected upon the stories and created a list of items needed for their costume/props.  All groups gathered together to discuss their needs and the students were all willing to pitch in and help their friends acquire their pieces.  After each character’s outfit was complete, the group discussed the setting of the play and what they would need to make the story come to life.  They created illustrations to represent their “set” and tore into the cardboard with their designs.  Finally, they tirelessly rehearsed with positive attitudes and encouragement.  As a director, I must say that all actors/actresses were enthusiastic about all of the plays.  Each group selected their own audience which they will perform for tomorrow.  If the performance goes as well as the dress rehearsals, third grade, fifth grade, and PreK will be amazed by the budding talent from our class.

Throughout the week, we have been exploring Native Americans from across our continent.  We have traversed the terrain as we hunted, gathered, planted, and decorated with the Eastern Woodland, Southwest, and Plains Native Americans.  We choreographed movements to help us remember the main source of food, housing, and clothing that accompanied each region.  We also discussed how their food source and natural resources dictated their housing and clothing options.  To end the week,  we worked on our vests for the Native Americans that may appear at our feast!
